Obama and Biden: Dream Ticket to 2008?
October 16th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Uncategorized
Is the United States going to have its first black President in its history?
This question has been lingering in the minds not only of Americans but of everyone who has been paying close attention to the US Presidential elections that will culminate this coming November.
Ever since Illinois Sen. Barack Obama announced his intentions to run for President, he got everyone buzzing. He may have been a senator since 2005, but no one has really ever heard of him. He was a good-looking 47-year-old gentleman with eloquence going around for him. Once you hear him speak, you get this feeling that things will go for the better. He used this eloquence and a promise of change to sway Democratic voters to his side despite facing a more experienced opponent in the person of New York Sen. And former US First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Obama, who was born in Hawaii, is of Kenyan and American descent. He went to Harvard Law School in 1988, and finished his Juris Doctor as magna cum laude in 1991. He served as a teacher in the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. He was an admired man in the city of Chicago because of his intelligence and passion. It was no longer surprising that he won convincingly when he ran for senator in the state of Illinois in 2004. During his stint in the senate, Obama advocated children’s health insurance, environment and foreign relations, among many others.
When he was still vying for the Democratic nomination, Obama made the halting of the war in Iraq, universal health care, and energy independence as the focal points of his campaign. He drew support from numerous celebrities, most notable of whom is the queen of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey. His optimism for a newly-reformed America and American government was voiced out by his campaign slogan, “Yes We Can!” Other people, however, were not impressed. They only saw Obama as a mere motivational speaker with no experience under his belt. He did not need their opinions because in June 3, 2008, he won enough Democratic votes to be his party’s sole nominee to the Presidential race.
After he has gotten the nomination, Obama made clearer his platforms and positions in several issues. Just recently, he criticized outgoing President George W. Bush, saying that the Bush was the reason for US’s woeful economy, “When Bush came in, we had a surplus; now we have a deficit.”
In a move that surprised most Democrats, Obama picked last Aug. 23 a relatively unknown Delaware Sen. Joe Biden to be his Vice President. Almost everyone was clamoring that he picked his former Democratic rival Clinton to be his running mate.
Although quite unfamiliar to many US voters, Biden actually has a lot of experiences under his belt, being elected Senator at the age of 30 (he is now 65). Not surprisingly, he was picked by critics as the unanimous winner of the Vice Presidential debate last Oct. 2. During the debate, he showed his vulnerability—a side that was not really played in the media—without him compromising his stand on a number of issues.

2008 Election Fever Sweeps Hollywood
October 15th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
There is no doubt that Hollywood packs a lot of power. Most of the movies it produces are blockbuster hits worldwide. Most of its TV shows are loved by people from all over the globe. Most of its superstars have large fan bases even from countries you may not even have heard of.
As the 2008 United States Presidential elections near, Hollywood once again displays its power. This time, it uses its influence not to sell movies or records, but for more important matters—to urge people to vote and to persuade the people to vote for who they think is the best person to run the country.
Oprah Winfrey, US television’s undisputed queen of talk, has been a rabid supporter of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama ever since the Illinois Senator announced his bid to become America’s first black president. Winfrey was a staple figure in many of Obama’s caucuses when he was still facing New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
You may call it the color connection, but aside from Winfrey, other celebrities of color such as Stevie Wonder, Wycleaf Jean, Halle Berry, Charles Barkley, John Legend and Usher have all been very vocal about their support of Obama. Most of them were also spotted wearing Obama t-shirts while they ran their errands. Samuel L. Jackson, even passed on the 2008 Oscars to extend his support to Obama. Will.i.Am from the group Black Eyed Peas even composed two jingles for Obama namely, Yes We Can, and We Are The Ones.
Robert de Niro and George Clooney are two actors that add a great deal of star power in Obama’s campaign. Both of them never hid their support for the Democratic presidential candidate. The politically-savvy Clooney refers to himself as an Obama guy and was even rumored to be in constant communication with the hopeful from Illinois. Scarlett Johansson was also rumored to be talking regularly with Obama, only to find out that it was one of Obama’s staff who was returning her emails. Despite this small misunderstanding, Johansson continues to show her affection for her favorite candidate. Husband and wife Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have also extended their support for Obama by hosting a fund-raiser.
Although lagging behind when it comes to celebrity endorsements, John McCain is not to be outdone. He has in his fold the support of California governor and famous action star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has cited McCain’s experience and his policies on security, environment and economy as his reasons why he supported the senator from Arizona.
Another action hero in the person Sylvester Stallone has endorsed the Republican bet for the 2008 Presidential race. Stallone says that McCain has enough experience already to stir the country even during tough situations.
Young Hollywood is not to be left out in voicing their support for McCain. The Hills’ starlet Heidi Montag has proclaimed her support for McCain in about every media outfit out there. McCain, for his part, thanked Montag, and said that he never misses an episode of Montag’s MTV show.

Although the magnetic air car has not yet been tested, Donovan hopes to be ready for production by 2010. The company plans to build its first prototype in the Sports Car Club of San Jose in the near future.
The vehicle comparisons based Tata Motors Air 106 mi / gal car, but Donovan said that the development of applications of Tata Motors Pistons, while the air from the design-technology magnet magnetic.
Unfortunately, there are more details about the electromagnetic waves in the car today. However, if the prototype is successful, I am sure that we hear much about this society.
